Hi, I have an Epson CX5400 and my father has a CX6400 and we are both having difficulty printing. I'm very computer literate and have checked everything I know to check and regular printer maintenance options only seem to waste ink and do little to resolve the printing issues. I think the problem might be related to the fact that neither one of us uses our printer much so I believe the ink nozzles are getting clogged. If that's what this likely is, how can we clean them without going through three whole sets of new ink cartridges trying to clean them.
Ink jet printers park the print head over a pad designed to seal the ink ports to prevent drying whilst the printer is not in use. However, some printers don't do a very good job of this. If this is the case with your printers, it may be necessary for you to remove the cartridges and seal them by hand when you expect not to be printing for a while. The problem with this is to do it with out damaging the print head. Alternatively, when I have had this problem in the past (no more because I now have a Cannon and it has a print head seperate from the cartridges) I have removed the offending cartridge and VERY carefully wiped the print head with a dampened paper towel. You have to watch that you don't get paper fibres in the head ports. Then place the cartridge back into the printer and print a test page to see the results. You may have to repeat this several times to be successful, but you don't use up so much ink.
