I've had the Canon MP600 for about 6 months and it is now showing an exclamation mark over the black cartridge. There is a small and big black cartridge. Do I wait for the big cartridge to run out and for it to use the small cartridge? And is it worth getting refills with non-chips or are they a waste of time? I've heard you can't reset them and they won't tell you when you're running low again. You heard it right! I have a PIXMA4500, and I have the same problem, and I have used non-chips and now they do not show me if I am running out of ink or not. usually until you get a red X sign in your printers status software there is no problem to keep using your printer, but you need to stay alert, when it runs out of ink then you have to replace it.
