I have a Brother MFC-240c. When I switch my printer on, the cleaning starts. This wastes a lot of my ink. Is there any way to stop it? This is normal for all Ink-jet type printers. If your printer does not perform this when it is started, you will likely have poor quality printing and your jets will eventually clog up completely and you will have to replace a cartridge that is almost full. Which is better, wasting 30% to 50% of a cartridge because it did not go through the cleaning cycle OR about 2 % to 5 % of the cartridge for cleaning. Good Luck While the printer is not in use, the ink that is near the openings of the jets will tend to dry and restrict the jets. Bits of this dried ink will be projected onto the first few pages you print - what a mess.
