I have a Compaq Evo D510 Small Form Factor PC w/ Win XP Pro, & 1G RAM. When I manually set the printer port to 'Virtual USB Printer Port' the PC will recognize my HP Laserjet. When I plug in the Brother it won't allow me to set the port - hence, it isn't recognized at all. The Brother driver program then backs out. Please advise.
You should let Windows detect the printer on the USB port. Some printer drivers will select the exact port you have it connected to. Then go thru the driver install when prompted by windows for the driver. Direct windows to install from the CD. I would use a different USB port than the one the HP is using.
