I tried to install my HP Photosmart 8150 printer and at first it said that it did not recognize the USB, but after it popped up a window that says that it could not install the the hardware because it could not find the necessary software.
You are going to have to uninstall the printer. Disconnect it from the computer and then reinstall the Cd that came with the printer. If you do not have the CD that came with the printer, you can go to the HP website and enter your printer model in the search field, then go to drivers and downloads and download the driver for your OS (XP, Vista, etc.). After the installation is complete, reconnect the printer to the computer and your computer should recognize it and you will get the pop-up (found new hardware).
