My Brother MFC printer refuses to read the cartridges. What is the error with my Brother MFC scanner/fax/printer? How can I fix this?
If it's Error 41, you're unfortunately dead out of luck and need to either contact Brother or buy a new printer. If it's telling you that they are empty, you can only reset that by telling the printer they are not empty, and the printer will then think these are full cartridgess and will continue printing until it decides they are empty again (which can run the risk of burning up the print head carriage, and that is an expensive fix). If the cartridges are newer, there is actually a piece of plastic inside that lowers with the ink level. If you have these, you either need to refill or get new cartridges, or else the printer will keep tracking the plastic level gauge, and if your carts are close to empty, the gauge is at the bottom.
