My Brother printer is out of Cyan ink and full of the rest, Why won't it let me just print in black?
Printers these days use color to darken the black, and will therefore not print without colour cartridges. The majority of inks are dye, not pigment based inks. Dye-based inks are usually quite light and need the extra darkening. It is also for the protection of the print head. Since it is an integrated single unit print head which heats to distribute the ink, a small amount of coolant, in the form of ink is required to prevent damage to the printer.
