My new Brother printer had a new black ink cartridge put in, but my monitor is still saying that my black ink is empty. What do I do to make the computer detect that it's actually full?
1. Open the top cover of the printer. When you open the cover of the printer, the RESUME button will flash until you close the cover. The printer part that will hold the cartridges (called the cartridge cradle) moves to the center of the printer. 2. Remove the ink cartridges from the box. 3. Remove the tape from the cartridges. 4. Lift the cradle latches inside the printer. 5. Hold the black ink cartridge vertical, with the copper electrical contacts toward the rear of the printer. 6. Push the black ink cartridge firmly down into the cradle on the right. 7. Hold the color ink cartridge vertical, with the copper electrical contacts toward the rear of the printer. 8. Push the color ink cartridge firmly down into the cradle on the left. 9. Close both latches. When you push down the latches, you will hear a click and feel resistance. 10. Close the lid of the printer. You will hear the sound of the cartridge cradles as they move to the right side of the printer. Attach the printer to the computer with a parallel cable or a USB cable. Print a test page. Turn the printer on and press the RESUME button to print a test page. If the RESUME light continues to flash, press it again. If the printer cable is firmly attached to the printer, then check to be sure that the printer cartridges are seated securely in their cradles. If the printer cartridges are seated firmly in their cradles, then check for any tape or packing material that you may have left inside the printer or on the cartridges. If you press the RESUME button for too long, you may print several test pages unnecessarily.
