My new PC has Vista Home and I can't get my Brother MFC 440 to work with it.
Please go back to the Brother website and check that you download the Windows Vista version for your hardware. Any other version won't work and it probably won't be recognized. Vista is very particular about what it will run. Brother may send you the whole install program, but it might not be installed the drivers if you select 'save' on the download window. Next time select 'run' and it will be installed. If it still doesn't run, restart the computer and let 'Plug-and-Play' recognize the hardware and let search for the driver itself. I should find it since you already downloaded it. After any installation, restart your computer, so it will pick up the new settings.
