My printer won't print. It is on, connected, and we just filled the ink. I'm thinking it can't detect the ink, so how can I reset it? I have shaken the ink, and the drum. I have turned off the printer, plugged it out, and left it, for days even. I've reset the computer and nothing works. On the printer, a yellow light flashes saying 'drum', so, I'm thinking something's wrong with it. My printer is a Brother HL-1430 printer. The 1430 has a separate toner cartridge and drum unit. Each has a limited lifespan. You probably can replace the toner cartridge 4-5 times before the machine will say that the drum unit needs to be replaced. There is a way to reset the drum age counter, without replacing the drum unit but it is probably a good idea to replace the drum unit. Whether you replace the drum unit or not, you will have to reset the drum counter to do so.
1. Open the front cover.
2. Keep holding down the button until all LEDs turn on with the front cover open
3. Release the button, then make sure that the Drum LED is off.
4. Close the front cover.
