Problems installing HP Deskjet 4180 -already installed using the hardware wizard but my computer still won't recognize the printer.
Sounds like installer is conflicting with another process. Run the install in safe mode. This may work. To run safe mode in XP, go to Start and then run ,type msconfig then enter. click on boot section and check safe mode, now restart and install it. Don't forget to go back into msconfig and uncheck safe mode when done.
