The cartridges on my Brother MFC-3220c dries out frequently between printing things.
Run a print head cleaning every week. WHen the print head is dry in that printer replacing the cartridges will not do anything. The print head is in the printer. Keep running print head cleanings. It is a very old printer, it may very well be on its last legs.
