We have a Dell A920 that we haven't used for quite a while. When we tried to print, it came out very light. I went through the cleaning and aligning steps with now differing results. My question is, 'Do I only need new ink cartridges (I removed them and put them in a ziploc bag and they leak so I am wondering if they have ink) or is there something wrong with the printer?

The ink may have dried up.Take a tissue, put a little rubbing alcohol on it and clean the old ink off the cartridges and then try again.
