Why are the Lexmark cartridges so expensive, should I get a different printer? I need a few color cartridges very soon. Lexmark holds patents on their cartridges, so no other manufacturer can produce the same as generic brand. This is not the case for most printers for Epson, Canon, Brother, Samsung and HP. Since there are no other distributors of their products, Lexmark printer users have no choice but to buy their cartridges.
