Why does the printer return an error message after inserting the ink cartridge? If an error message appears after the ink cartridge is inserted, the electrical contacts on the ink cartridge or the printer itself are most likely dirty. The contacts can be cleaned with a paper towel dipped in alcohol or general purpose cleaner, using circular motions. Care should be taken to avoid pulling up the edges of the electrical contact ribbon.
