Why doesn't my computer recognize my Lexmark USB printer?

Go to CONTROL PANEL, then SYSTEM then HARDWARE then DEVICES and dropping down to USB controllers where you should see one entitled USB Printing Support and hopefully it or any others do NOT have yellow exclamation points that signify errors that need to be troubleshooted & repaired. Sometimes for no unexplained reason, just simply switching the cable to a different USB port on your Notebook PC can resolve your problem... If you click and open the USB Printing Support, if you look closely it will say whether 'Device is working properly' and down below it will also provide option to 'Troubleshoot' as well as indicate whether 'USB Device is Enabled' or not...
