how to make a printer a network printer
Navigate to the 'Add Printer' wizard on the computer directly connected to the printer.  Begin the wizard, ensuring you have unselected the automatic detection option and selected the 'local printer' field. Next, create a new port for the printer (standard port), which will open a new port creation wizard.  This requires the printer's IP address to be entered, which should be obtained prior to installing for the network.  Finish the port creation wizard, and scroll to select the printer model from the list presented.  Select to make printer available across the network.  Upon completion, this should allow the printer to be accessed across the network by permitted workstations.
