Firstly, place the item you intend to scan in the appropriate place.  Locate the HP Solution Center programme, which may be accessible from a desktop icon. Open up this programme by double-clicking on the icon, to enable you to scan and modify your picture.  Click on 'Scan Picture' Click 'Scan', and 'Accept' on the next screen to begin scanning the image on the printer.  You will then be able to modify the picture, crop as desired, and export to various programmes and formats as desired.  You may also be able to print directly from this screen if required.
